Scope Ratings has updated its rating report on the Barclays PLC group, rated A+ with Stable Outlook.

Following changes in the group’s legal structure to implement UK ring-fencing requirements, Scope has affirmed the A+ Issuer Rating of Barclays Bank PLC and has assigned first-time A+ Issuer Ratings to Barclays PLC and to Barclays Bank UK PLC.

The handbook includes an assessment of how risks in the AT1 market are evolving. Recent developments concerning Banco Popular and Bremer Landesbank demonstrate the importance of issuer fundamentals when evaluating the likelihood of incurring losses.

Scope Ratings has updated its rating report on Barclays plc’s AT1 securities. Ratings were also assigned to the 7.25% GBP 1.25bn perpetual subordinated contingent convertible securities issued in March 2017.

Aggregate amount of Tier 2 securities rated is equivalent to nearly EUR 40bn; all rated securities were issued publicly in 2015-2016 by banks already rated by Scope and qualify as Tier 2 capital under CRD IV-CRR.

Scope Ratings today has assigned long-term ratings of A to Barclays Bank plc, with a stable outlook. This is the first time that Scope rates the UK banking group.
