Italian NPL collections: recovery slowdown continues in April

Collections in April declined by 22% month over month and were 35% lower than the April average for the three previous years, indicating a notable slowdown in recovery performance.

April’s under-performance relative to the historical average for the month was driven by judicial collections (down EUR 29m, equivalent to a 30% reduction) and discounted payoffs (DPOs, which fell EUR 21m or 49%. By contrast, note sales recorded a significant increase of 183%, collecting EUR 6m more than the previous three-year April average.
